Partnering to Create Recycling Solutions for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Recently we’ve been interviewed about our success with finding recycling solutions for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Because the focus of our company is to provide recycling and waste solutions for manufacturing and distribution companies, it is not uncommon for our clients to have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as part of their waste stream. However, up until a few years ago, there was very little we could do to help divert these items from the landfill.
The easiest types of Personal Protective Equipment to recycle are single material items, such as safety glasses made from one kind of plastic or coveralls made completely out of Tyvec. However, even these types of PPE can prove difficult to recycle since they are usually light weight and therefore can be financially impractical to transport for recycling. Then there is more complex PPE, such as used ear plugs, dust masks, and equipment made from multiple material types. It used to be virtually impossible to find solutions for these kinds of items. But now, thanks to our partnership with TerraCycle and their Zero Waste Box program, we are able to recycle Personal Protective Equipment for our clients.
